
The Iconic Journey of Amjad Khan: Beyond the Villain of Sholay
Amjad Khan was the iconic villain of the Indian film industry. He played the role of Gabbar Singh in Sholay and won the hearts of people. His acting skills and carefree attitude have won the hearts of people.
Amjad Khan was fond of acting since childhood. Amjad Khan’s father was Jayant, a well-known Indian actor. Jayant was originally from Peshawar and was also the father of actor Imtiaz Khan, making him the grandfather of actor Shadaab Khan. He used to do theatre in his college days which helped him a lot in his acting career. The role of Gabbar Singh in Sholay movie in 1975 was a turning point in his career. Then he worked in Mr. Natwarlal, Yaarana, Naseeb and Laawaris were the films in which Amjad Khan worked. He also played positive roles in Yaarana and Laawaris.
Amjad Khan had the talent to put life into any character. He worked in 132 films. His last film was Kalinga which was released in 1996. When Amjad Khan was very worried when it was thought that Amjad Khan wont be able to act in the film Sholay. Because it took a lot of time to shoot the first scene. Then he talked to his mother, who told her not to worry. Then a playing card and a parrot encouraged Amjad Khan. The parrot took out a card for the card reader, which read that whatever work he is going to do will make him most popular. Amjad got encouragement. His powerful voice and acting entertained people. He didn’t look back after playing Gabbar Singh.
Amjad worked in a few selected films like Shatranj Ke Khilari, which was directed by Satyajit Ray. This film was written by Munshi Prem Chand. He played the role of Wajid Ali Shah in the film. The role of Nawab of Awadh completely suited him. His comedy did great in the film Utsav. He also did a great job in the film Qurbani. He married Shehla Khan in 1972. He had three children. Shadaab Khan, who acted in films. His daughter’s name was Ahlam Khan, and his younger son was Seemad Khan.
Amjad Khan met with a huge accident in 1986. Because of this accident, he had to take a lot of pills. His weight went out of control. He used to drink a lot of tea. He died at the age of 51.
